What is MODERN school photography?
Over the last 20 years, photography styles and methods have changed drastically with the invention of digital photography. There is one place where there has been very little change: school portraits. In so many ways, we are still using the one-shot, stiff poses photographers have used for the last 60+ years. My goal is to provide a better, more modern option for schools when it comes to student portraits. I provide a custom, personal, professional experience for the families in the schools who have chosen to have me photograph their students. Unlike large corporations, I only take on a few select schools so I can provide the artistic, professional images I love to capture, along with superior customer service.
During our quick sessions, children are encouraged to be themselves. Without annoying flashes or busy backgrounds, we are able to capture classic, artistic images of the students that show their personalities and give parents several options to choose from, or an entire gallery to help them remember their child at this age. Besides being a family lifestyle photographer, I am a mother and a teacher, and I have always been able to make kids feel comfortable. What services do you offer?
After photo day, each student will receive access to a password-protected online ordering galleries. Each child will be provided with 5-10 images in both color and black and white. Parents can choose to print or download any or all of the images, as opposed to having a pose chosen for them. I provide several kinds of professional printing choices from inexpensive combo packages to boutique choices like canvas gallery wraps, along with printable digital images. A detailed PDF explaining the ordering process will be sent to the schools for distribution to the families prior to picture day, and I handle all questions from the families myself. No money is required unless parents choose to order. Yearbook and staff photos will be selected, formatted for yearbook use, and delivered to the school via an electronic transfer.
Photos are ordered online and delivered straight to the school.
I provide all equipment and personnel necessary for picture day.
I provide the school with full-resolution images to use in yearbooks, school materials, school IDs, or any other way they'd like to use the photos.
I take staff photos and provide complimentary staff ID cards.
Middle and High School students are also provided student ID cards.
Compilation staff and student posters and other products also available.
Other considerations
Are your photos expensive? No! Several options are available from digital downloads to a variety of print packages that to fit everyone's needs. No purchase is necessary in advance, so parents will only decide what to purchase after they have seen the images.. My print package prices are comparable to larger companies . I also donate 10% of my profits to the school.
How many students can you accommodate? I can provide portraits to any size of school, from preschools with only a few students to large schools. I have worked with children of all ages and developmental stages in photography. I prefer to take as many days as I need to photograph all the students myself, but I can provide additional photographers if the school has time restrictions.
What about kids with special needs? I have a large amount of experience working with and photographing special needs children. I have special needs children of my own. Special needs children are the reason I entered the school photography field.
What time of year do you take school portraits? I schedule these sessions with each school to provide the most convenient time for the schools.
